'Touch Damage'

This painting is a self portrait. I painted it reflecting on research I have dedicated myself to over the last year on how sculpture has impacted and told the story of womanhood over the ages. My aim with this piece is to tell the story of how women feel looking at sculptures made of their bodies throughout history. Those enforcing unrealistic beauty standards and further watching those on public display constantly being touched and treated with pure disrespect. I would like each person who views this to follow my gaze and reflect with me about how women are portrayed and treated in sculpture and what this can mean for real life women.
